Sunstone generally ranks around 6–7 on the Mohs hardness scale, with some variation according to feldspar composition. Because feldspar also has cleavage, protect the gemstone from sharp knocks. Clean gently with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth, and avoid steam cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, harsh chemicals and excessive heat.
